Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC), Ghaziabad – An Honest Review Based on Real Student Experiences

Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, popularly known as AKGEC, has been a well-known name among private colleges under AKTU. From the outside, the college looks impressive – a lush green campus, digital libraries, robotics labs, and industry tie-ups with Siemens, KUKA, Bosch Rexroth, and more. But what’s the real story behind all this show? Let's dig into what real students and alumni have to say.

1. Faculty & Academics – Big Hype, Average Delivery

When students join AKGEC in their first year, they expect a strong academic foundation and quality teaching. However, the reality turns out to be underwhelming. Many students mention that faculty members are often mechanical – just delivering lectures without engaging the class.

While the CSE/IT departments fare slightly better, branches like Civil and Electrical are often criticized for poor teaching quality. A few professors like Jay Varshney Sir are exceptions and appreciated by students, but overall, the academics feel uninspired and overly theory-focused.

2. Placements – Only for CS/IT, and That Too with Restrictions

AKGEC placements are decent only for CS/IT students, and even then, there's a catch. The college imposes extra rules like 75% attendance and a minimum 70–75% mark requirement just to sit in placements – stricter than what the companies actually demand.

Many students shared that despite having skills and good coding knowledge, they were disqualified from placement drives due to low attendance or internal marks. For core branches like Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical, placement opportunities are very limited.

3. Discipline or Suppression?

AKGEC is very strict when it comes to discipline. So much so that students often call it a “jail.” Taking a single leave can lead to fines or deduction in internal marks. Hostel rules are rigid – students are not allowed in their rooms during class hours. Events are rare, and even when held, they’re heavily regulated. The overall atmosphere feels suffocating for many.

4. Infrastructure – Beautiful Campus, Underused Facilities

There’s no denying that AKGEC’s infrastructure is impressive. The campus is clean, green, and well maintained. Labs like KUKA Robotics and Siemens Centre sound attractive, but here’s the catch – most of them are only for certification courses and not part of regular academics. These labs are open to outsiders too, so students often feel they exist just for show, not for their everyday use.

5. Student Life – Lacks Fest Culture and Real Exposure

If you’re expecting vibrant college life, AKGEC might disappoint you. Students report that cultural fests and tech events are minimal or missing altogether. There’s very little exposure to hackathons, competitions, or student-driven clubs. The strict administration leaves little room for personality development or exploration beyond books.

Final Verdict – Looks Good from Outside, but Reality is Different

AKGEC might have a reputation, but most of it is based on its infrastructure and industry name-dropping. The actual student experience is highly restricted, with limited placements for non-CS/IT branches, weak academic engagement, and almost no college life.

If you’re a CS/IT student who is self-driven and already good at coding, you can consider AKGEC. But if you’re looking for a full college experience – academics, freedom, exposure, and growth – colleges like JSS Noida, KIET Ghaziabad, or even Galgotias might be better picks.

Thank you
